Connect to Our Systems
Library access options
Options for connecting to our systems.
Google Scholar
When accessing full-text content available through the Library from Google Scholar you can automate this process in a couple of ways:
Lean Library - Your most efficient option when searching in Google or Google Scholar, is to install the Lean Library browser plugin. It puts access to online resources within your browser and makes your workflow faster and more streamlined.
When you click to view a resource from a Google Scholar search results screen, a popup will show in the top right corner of your browser where you can click through to where the Library has access to the full-text.
For more tools that make access to online resources faster, browse our search tools page.
Your Google Scholar account - You can set your preferences so that you can link to full-text content available through the Library. 'Find It @ Unimelb' links will appear on the Google Scholar search results screen that you can click to access the full-text if it is available through the library.
NOTE: The Find It @ Unimelb pathway requires a lot more clicks to get to the full-text and is not as direct as the Lean Library option.
To add the Library in your Google Scholar settings:
- Go to Google Scholar: http://scholar.google.com
- Click the Settings link at the top-left of the page.
- Click the Library links option to the left.
- Enter: 'University of Melbourne Library' in the search box and click the search button.
- Tick the checkbox next to the option: 'University of Melbourne Library - Find It @ Unimelb'.
- Click the 'Save' button.

Direct PDF download
We have a couple of different options that allow you to directly download PDFs from your browser window without having to navigate to or locate the download link on a website.
EndNote Click - Once you've navigated to the database or website that a resource is located on, EndNote Click will put a popup notification in the bottom left corner of your browser window where you can directly download the PDF. It also provides a screen where you can directly import the reference into EndNote.
LibKey Nomad - Similar to EndNote Click, LibKey Nomad provides a popup in the corner of your browser window that allows you to directly download the PDF.
We would suggest integrating one of the above options with Lean Library to create seamless access to Library resources. While EndNote Click and LibKey Nomad provide the actual PDF, Lean Library provides automatic login to the database or website that the resource is located on.

Reference managers
The University of Melbourne Library supports EndNote, Mendeley and Zotero
Some Reference Management apps like EndNote and Zotero can be configured to connect to Library systems to find and import references. Each one is different, however most allow you to link to an OpenURL resolver and/or a Library Proxy. Please note that we no longer run a Library Proxy (or EZProxy) so you cannot setup proxy access to our resources.
Use this URL in your software to connect to our OpenURL resolver: https://unimelb.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/sfxlcl41
