Library services for students
Undergraduate students
The Library provides a range of spaces, services and resources aimed at supporting your students.
- Library spaces
- Chat to a Librarian Service. Students can access Library help online at any time during normal Library opening hours via the Chat to a Librarian service, accessible via the Library home page.
- Borrowing. University of Melbourne students are able to borrow from a range of academic libraries through a reciprocal borrowing scheme:
- CAVAL is a Victorian program, which allows registered users to borrow in person from participating libraries. Students can obtain a CAVAL card from service desks at any of the University of Melbourne Library's branches.
- Inter-library loans. In addition to CAVAL, students can request books and articles at no cost via the Inter-library Loans service.
- Bookable Rooms and PCs
- Printing, scanning and copying
- Disability Services. The Library offers services and resources to support students with a disability. This includes computers with specialist software, ergonomic furniture and equipment, and help with research and special lending rules.

Honours and Graduate students
In addition to the services available to undergraduate students, students studying at honours or graduate level are able to access the following services:
- Research consultations. Individual, customised consultations with a discipline-relevant Liaison Librarian to assist with issues such as effective literature searching, publishing opportunities, information and data management or resource identification.
- Research training. A range of library classes has been designed with graduate students in mind. Class topics include reference management (EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley), research, and publishing.
