Finding Teaching and Learning Materials for Students
Making materials available to students
The library has an extensive and growing collection of eBooks and online journals via the library catalogue or Discovery interface. Please use the library link generator for any direct web links you create to these materials to ensure your students get easy direct access.
The library offers services, including High Use collection and Readings Online, to help your students find the materials listed in your course reading lists. You can find more information about these services and other options below.
-
In preparation for each semester, library staff will check print titles currently placed in our High Use collections. You may be contacted by library staff to confirm whether an item is required for the semester; where possible, an electronic copy will be purchased. For more information, please visit the High Use page.
-
To create online reading lists within Canvas, we encourage you to use Readings Online. This tool allows you to set and organise readings, and to redeploy reading lists for future iterations of your subject. You can also now directly link to a reading from within your Canvas module. For more information, please visit the Readings Online page.
-
The Library subscribes to an extensive range of visual and audio materials to support your teaching.

There are a few options to consider
- Contact the Orders team early to discuss your textbook options or to recommend the purchase of an eBook for your subject. This will give us time to ensure we have your preferred choices in our collection. Please be aware that not all publishers make their electronic materials available for library lending
- You can use Perusall to assign eTextbooks for students to purchase themselves; although it would also be great for you to advise us if any library copies will be in demand.
-
There are several key resources you can add to your Canvas subjects to assist students with finding quality information for their work
- Research Essentials Library Guide
- The Library Guide for your own discipline
- Video: Your Search Options
- Video: Level Up Your Search Skills
- Lean Library browser extension (log into the Library’s subscriptions from anywhere on the web).
-
Visit one of our libraries or contact us via library chat. For more information, please visit our Library FAQs.
-
Whether students need to find a quiet place to study, book a room for group work, recharge their phone or computer, they'll find a space in one of our Libraries. Students can check out the Library locations and opening hours page for more information..
