Monitoring and Measuring Metrics

The University provides access to various tools that can help you monitor and measure your research metrics. There is no single tool that has comprehensive coverage of all output and metric types, so you will likely need to consult multiple tools.

Key tools

Researcher Dashboard

The IHRES001 Researcher Dashboard (available via Enterprise Performance Reporting) provides publication, projects, HERDC and graduate supervision data. Each academic researcher has access to their own profile and the profile of their direct reports, and is supplemented by the data provided in the additional subscription tools below.

Library subscription tools

  • Scopus is a multi-disciplinary database that tracks citations across its indexed content. Search by researcher or research output.

  • SciVal is the Scopus analytics platform. Use it for more in-depth exploration of Scopus metrics (e.g. comparison, benchmarking).

  • Web of Science is a multi-disciplinary database that tracks citations across its indexed content. Search by researcher or research output.

  • InCites - Benchmarking & Analytics is the Web of Science analytics platform. Use it for more in-depth exploration of Web of Science metrics.

  • Overton is a searchable index of policy documents, guidelines, think tank publications and working papers which also tracks citations.

Faculty-specific guidance

The selection of the most appropriate metrics differs between disciplines, purpose, context, and the specific research being evaluated. Refer to the Responsible Use of Research Metrics page for more information.
