Style notes for this reference type

See Handbook

  • When a work is published without an author’s name, do not list the author as “Anonymous”. Instead, skip the author element and begin the entry with the title (5.3).
  • An access date for an online work should generally be provided if the work lacks a publication date or if you suspect that the work has been altered or removed (5.111).
  • You can usually omit http:// or https:// from URLs unless you want to hyperlink them and are working in a software program that does not allow hyperlinking without the protocol, (however include https:// with DOIs (5.96).
  • If a URL runs more than three full lines or is longer than the rest of the entry, truncate it. When truncating, always retain at least the host (5.96).
  • For more guidance on in-text citations not using page numbers, see 6.20 of the Handbook.
