Image created by artificial intelligence software

Check with your lecturers and tutors whether AI image generators are permitted in your assessment tasks.

If your subject coordinator has advised that you can use generative AI tools in an assessment, guidance about acknowledging AI tools and technologies is available from Academic Skills.

For more information about appropriate use of generative AI in your subject assessments, see the Academic Integrity Statement on Artificial Intelligence Tools and Technologies.

Images must have a caption, and a full citation in a list of figures. Give each image a figure number. You may abbreviate figure as Fig. See Manual 14.57.

Tips for this reference type

  • See Manual 3.21, 3.22, 3.38, 14.112 , 14.133, 14.57.
  • The minimum information to include in a caption for an AI-generated image is the name and version number of the Artificial Intelligence Tool, the prompt you used, and the date the output was generated. You may choose to include more information at the end of the caption.
  • URLs to AI-generated content must link to a publicly available version of the output or chat transcript. Many AI tools will enable you to create a shareable link.
