Wall text or label at an exhibition

Chicago does not require you to cite exhibition wall text separately to an artwork. Instead, credit the museum or gallery and which artwork the text accompanies.

Footnote template

Wall text associated with a specific artwork:

[Footnote number]. Wall text accompanying Title of Artwork, year of artwork, exhibition at Institute/ Gallery/ Museum, City, Exhibition Title, dates of exhibition (Month Day, Year to Month Day, Year).

OR

Wall text not associated with a specific artwork:

Footnote number. Wall text at Exhibition Title, exhibition at Institute/ Gallery/ Museum, City, dates of exhibition (Month Day, Year to Month Day, Year).

Bibliography

Do not include an entry for exhibition wall text in your bibliography. If you quote or refer to an exhibition catalogue, this is cited as a book.
