Wall text or label at an exhibition
You may need to consult more than one section of Re:cite to accurately represent the source used. Your citation may look different depending on the number of authors it has. Check the frequently asked questions about Chicago A for further advice.
Chicago does not require you to cite exhibition wall text separately to an artwork. Instead, credit the museum or gallery and which artwork the text accompanies.

Bibliography
Do not include an entry for exhibition wall text in your bibliography. If you quote or refer to an exhibition catalogue, this is cited as a book.
Tips for this reference type
- See Manual 14.133.
- The information in wall text and exhibition labels is often duplicated in exhibition catalogues or on gallery websites (e.g. see downloadable exhibition labels for Del Kathryn Barton at NGV Australia). Cite exhibition labels and wall text only if you are unable to find this information in an exhibition catalogue or webpage.
- If you are referring to an exhibition label for an artwork, ensure that you also provide a citation for the artwork itself. See citation guidelines for referring to an artwork (viewed in a gallery or collection) or including an image of an artwork in your work.
- You may choose to include an image of the wall text in your work. If you do, follow guidelines for including an image of an artwork viewed in a gallery and add 'wall text' to your image caption. No additional footnote is required if you include an image in this way.
