Tips for this reference type

Series unfold over multiple episodes in varying narrative formats. They may be Episodic, Serial, Seasonal, or Anthology in format. They may be released over a time period or all-at-once.

• See 14.161 and 14.165.
• You may refer to a specific moment in an episode. See FAQ: shortened note for a specific episode.
• Omit the year of release if it is the same as the year of publication.
• The order of the citation elements may depend on the nature of the resource and on what the focus of the citation is (i.e. you may cite the director's name first if the direction of the work is your primary focus).
• Any facts relevant to identifying the item should be included (i.e. additional writers, actors, producers). See above links for examples. You may need to consult other resources (i.e a library catalogue, Film Index International or IMDb) for some citation elements.
• The title of the show is italicised, and the title of the episode is given in double quotation marks.
• Episodes and indexed scenes are treated like chapters. Where an episode does not have an individual title, just include the episode number.
• Accompanying material, such as critical commentary and interviews, are usually cited in terms of the related content.
• It is usually acceptable for sources to record the URL for the home page (e.g. https://www.netflix.com/) or the name of the database (Nexflix) in lieu of a long URL to a specific episode.
• For recordings accessed online, if there is no date of production or broadcast provided, you should include an access date prior to the URL (Manual 13.15).
