Style notes for this reference style

  • Rule 7.16 covers social media posts, forum posts and online videos uploaded to sites such as YouTube.
  • The username should appear as it does on the social media platform. For Twitter accounts, '@' should be included in the username.
  • If a social media post doesn’t have a title, you don’t need to include one.
  • For full date information (including whether to include the local timezone) consult Rule 7.16. You can include the time of posting if it helps identify which post is being referenced.
  • Pinpoint references to video can include a time or timespan, see Rules 1.11.3 – 1.11.4.
  • A URL should be included after the first reference to a source. If the full URL is cumbersome and the source can be easily found from the main page, you can use the address of the general site. See Rule 4.4.
