Discover (Springer Nature imprint)

2026 NOTICE: The information below is relevant for the Discover imprint of Springer Nature. From 1 January 2026, open access journals in the separate SpringerOpen portfolio are eligible for full APC coverage under the expanded and uncapped Springer Nature Read and Publish agreement. Conditions and eligibility requirements apply. This broader APC discount arrangement will cease to apply from 1 January 2026, but the Discover discount is still in place.

15% discount on open access Article Processing Charges (APCs) on Discover journals.

Status

Active (for articles accepted during the term of the agreement).

Agreement term

1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026.

Summary

University of Melbourne corresponding authors are eligible for a 15% APC discount when publishing in a fully open access Discover journal from Springer Nature. Eligible titles are reflected in our Journal Open Pathways Explorer.

Note that this agreement only covers open access titles from the Discover and BMC (BioMed Central) imprints of Springer Nature. This discount does not extend to other imprints, such as the Nature portfolio.

Eligible authors

To be eligible, the article's corresponding author must, at the time of submission, provide their University of Melbourne affiliation. This must be their first and primary affiliation in the Springer Nature publishing system and in the article itself.

Eligible article types

  • Original Paper: Standard article, usually presenting new results which may also be referred to as Original Research, Original Article, Original Paper or Research Paper.
  • Review Paper: Standard article, interpreting previously published results.
  • Brief Communication: A short standard article containing primary research. This may also be called a Short Research Article, Case Report, or Brief Report on new findings.

How to use the discount

When possible, corresponding authors should use their unimelb email address (@unimelb.edu.au or @student.unimelb.edu.au). This email address should be used in the publisher's submission platform and all correspondence. This allows for easy verification of affiliation.

Submitting from a computer with a University IP Address also helps verify affiliation. This can be done by using on-campus wi-fi or the University’s VPN.

Related agreement

We also have a Read and Publish agreement with Springer Nature. In 2026, this agreement covers a limited amount of open access publishing in hybrid journals from certain imprints, including Springer. Some fully open access journals are also covered in this this R&P agreement from 2026. Exclusions do apply so please consult the Springer Nature agreement page.
