Current agreement term
1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026.
Journal coverage
Unlimited open access publishing for University of Melbourne corresponding authors in all 27 CSIRO-owned journals.
Expanded coverage in 2026 sees the agreement cover two additional journals: Microbiology Australia and Australian Zoologist. Only articles accepted to these journals from 1 January 2026 are eligible.
Covered journals are reflected in our 2026 all covered journals spreadsheet. They will also be included in CAUL's 2026 title list.
Note that several CSIRO Publishing open access journals do not charge APCs (see DOAJ). Although they are not listed in our covered journals list, they remain free for authors.
Journal exclusions
Several society-run journals are excluded from this agreement.
Eligible authors
To be eligible, the article's corresponding author must, at the time of submission, provide their University of Melbourne affiliation. This must be their first and primary affiliation in the publishing system and in the article itself.
Eligible article types
- Article (including Article; Early Access)
- Review (including Review; Early Access)
Article types excluded from this agreement include, but are not limited to: Editorial; Foreward; Letter to the Editor; Comment/Response; Book Review; Corrigendum; Letter.
How to use the agreement
When possible, corresponding authors should use their unimelb email address (@unimelb.edu.au or @student.unimelb.edu.au). This email address should be used in the publisher's submission platform and all correspondence. This allows for easy verification of affiliation.
Submissions must be made through CSIRO’s submission platform, ScholarOne. Eligible authors will be identified by their email addresses and/or Ringgold ID (organisational identifier).
For details on how to use the CSIRO Publishing agreement, see the "Open access workflow" section of the agreement's CAUL R&P Guide page.
