Type

Read and Publish agreement (via CAUL).

Status

Active since 1 January 2022 (for articles accepted during the term of the agreement).

Current agreement term

1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026.

Journal coverage

Unlimited open access publishing for University of Melbourne corresponding authors in selected Brill journals. Only journals to which the University currently subscribes are covered.

Covered journals are reflected in our 2026 all covered journals spreadsheet. They will also be included in CAUL's 2026 title list.

Journal exclusions

Most Brill journals are excluded from this agreement. Only those in the covered titles list above are included.

Eligible authors

To be eligible, the article's corresponding author must, at the time of submission, provide their University of Melbourne affiliation. This does not need to be their first affiliation; any affiliation order is acceptable.

Eligible article types

  • Research articles
  • Review articles
  • Case reports
  • Brief reports
  • Rapid communications

Article types excluded from this agreement include: book review; editorial/introduction; interview; obituary.

How to use the agreement

When possible, corresponding authors should use their unimelb email address (@unimelb.edu.au or @student.unimelb.edu.au). This email address should be used  in the publisher's submission platform and all correspondence. This allows for easy verification of affiliation.

If submitting through Brill’s Editorial Manager system, authors will be asked whether their institution has a read-and-publish agreement.

If submitting directly to a journal contact, authors must request to publish open access and indicate that their institution has a read-and-publish agreement.

For details on how to use the Brill agreement, see the "Open access workflow" section of the agreement's CAUL R&P Guide page.
