The University of Melbourne has a number of rare and valuable collections that are used for research, teaching and learning. As the collections require a specialist environment to preserve them for future generations, they are stored in secure areas.
This is where the Reading Room comes in: our staff retrieve collection items for you to view in a purpose-built supervised space.
We're here to help you access the following collections:

From 18 January 2021, all students and staff of the University of Melbourne who are approved to return to campus and wish to access Archives and Special Collections via the Reading Room should make their request for materials through the Aeon system.

The Baillieu Library Reading Room is currently only available via bookings for Researchers of the University of Melbourne approved on campus via your Research Return to Campus Coordinators. For more details go here.
