Spotlight On: The Vesuvian Apparatus
Share via
As part of Innovation Week, join senior curator Richard Gillespie, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology as we take a deep dive into the curious history of William Hamilton's Vesuvian Apparatus. 250 years after it was first designed, a team of FEIT students has used modern mechatronics to reproduce its effect. Discuss how the distinction between art and science is an arbitrary one, and learn how this eighteenth century multimedia work has been given new life.
Presented in partnership with the PGAV’s Analog Art program, Archives and Special Collections is launching its regular Spotlight Series. Selected by archivists, librarians, curators, researchers, academics and artists, every session will spotlight the wonders our collection hold, and create an informal space for engaging in critical conversations, reflective discussions, slow looking, creative workshops, talks and much more.
