Showcasing products aimed at the emerging merchant class in seventeenth and eighteenth-century East Asia, curator Shiqiu Liu will lead you through three gambling/drinking games using cards that feature designs inspired by the theatre, as well as a rare Republican edition of the esteemed Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden, and the Album of Assembled Treasures from the Kanō school of Tokugawa Japan.
Archives and Special Collections holds over 20,000 rare East Asian items ranging from the 17th to the 21st centuries, on topics such as history, literature, fine arts, traditional medicine, religion, linguistics, education, gender studies, politics, architecture, craft and design. It consists of books, scrolls, realia, stone rubbings, and ephemera.
