University of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne (UM) Collection comprises material published or produced by the University and its Colleges. The collection includes examination papers, calendars, faculty guides and handbooks, research reports, occasional papers, academic journals, student magazines and newspaper, annual reports and agenda papers. Also included are:
Melbourne University Publishing
Melbourne University Publishing (MUP) – an almost complete set of titles. The collection covers a range of subjects including social history, politics, history, art and literature.
University of Melbourne Theses
The University of Melbourne Thesis Collection consists of archival copies of all Masters by Research and PhD theses completed at the University up to 2017. University of Melbourne hard-copy theses can be found in the Library Catalogue, but are not available for loan. Instead they can be read in the Reading Room in the Baillieu Library. Requests for theses must be made online prior to visiting.
Theses submitted after 2017 are only available digitally. These are stored in the Institutional Repository.
The collection holds a limited number of Honours theses; these are either available via the library catalogue or by request to departmental offices or libraries.
Ordering a digital copy of UM Theses
We accept requests from all researchers for copies of University of Melbourne theses. All requests for copies of material held at the University of Melbourne Library must comply with the Copyright Act of 1968. University of Melbourne theses can be provided under section 51(2) for the purpose of research and study only.
To order, complete and sign the copyright declaration form below and email it to reading-room@unimelb.edu.au. Please note that theses cannot be requested on behalf of another person, and that the copyright declaration request forms must be signed by the person requesting the thesis.
Most thesis requests will be fulfilled within 5 working days, but if the thesis has not already been digitised, requests may take 4-6 weeks to complete.
