Digital preservation repository
About the repository
The University’s Digital Preservation Program administers a digital preservation repository (DPR) system for the active management and preservation of digital materials of enduring value.
Digital materials in scope for preservation in the DPR are specified in Digital preservation scope and principles.
Ingest workflows
We are partnering with collection custodians to develop workflows and technical integrations between the DPR and various University systems. Active workflows for ingesting digital materials into the DPR are outlined below.
| Source system | Digital materials | Preservation stream | Workflow type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Institutional Repository | Research Masters and PhD theses and accompanying submission material | Research | System integration, automated |
| Archival Management System | Archival collections including donated records, and permanent value University records and data | Cultural collections | Manual ingest |
Preservation actions
Since implementing the DPR, we have been exploring the system’s preservation features and building upon them. This work has included the following:
- Developing an unpacking workflow for ZIP files (read our conference paper about this workflow)
- Carrying out regular fixity checking across all digital objects
- Undertaking format identification to understand the types of objects in the DPR.
