Part 4: Creating Visualisations in NVivo

Part 4: Creating Visualisations in NVivo

This online session for researchers explores how NVivo can help you to create meaningful visualisations and discover research insights in your data. You will learn how queries work, how to create word clouds, bar graphs, and hierarchy charts, as well as how to create a cross-table of your themes and cases. Please make sure you have a copy of NVivo 1.0 installed on your device. There is a difference between the Mac and Windows versions of NVivo, and depending on trainer availability there may not be as much support during the session for Mac users as there are for Windows users.

Learning Objectives:

  • I understand how to use queries to create a word cloud
  • I understand how to use queries to create a matrix table and a framework matrix
  • I understand how to use the visualisation wizard to create a bar chart and a hierarchy chart

Alex Shermon is a PhD Candidate in the School of Culture and Communications at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on the day-to-day experiences of online far-right communities and their engagement with populism and conspiracy theories. He used NVivo in his minor thesis on the culture wars in Australia, and as a Research Assistant on the Doctors Down Under project.
