Loops in R

Loops in R

The goal of this workshop is to teach R programmers how to use loops in R. You will learn easier ways to analyse and automate your data analysis with the help of loops. Specifically, you will be learning how to write for and while loops from scratch in order to get all the information you want from your data. You will also learn how to replace loops by using the purrr package.

Please note that the training is aimed at people who have attended the R introductory workshops or have some basic R knowledge.

Learning Objectives:

  • I know how to create and run a for loop in R.
  • I know how to generate a while loop in R.
  • I know how to use the map function in purrr to replace a loop.
  • I can perform an operation in a loop and store the results into a variable.

Pablo Franco is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne. He studies how people make decisions that involve solving complex problems (for instance, choosing insurance or even choosing what to buy at the supermarket). He does this by integrating insights from neuroscience, psychology, economics and computer science. He uses several programming languages for his data analysis, including R and python, but he is, first and foremost, an R enthusiast and promoter.
