Design and printing of 3D spaces and objects

OVERVIEW

Put simply 3D Data is object-based data, it is a mathematical representation of something three-dimensional. In many workflows a Computer-aided design (CAD) program will be required, and of the selection of CAD programs that are available Rhino3D is in the centre of an ecology of tools that will help you with your 3D data. As an industry standard Rhino3D has been a staple of engineering and design for decades, and more recently emerging technologies such as 3D printing and 3D scanning have begun to revolutionise the way we record and manufacture spaces and objects.

At the University of Melbourne there are many resources available for researchers who wish to employ rapid prototyping, 3D design and Artefact Digitisation. Join us to learn how with an introduction to Rhino 3D.

Presenter

Eric Jong (@JongEric), 3D modelling and 3D printing trainer

Eric has recently completed a Masters of fine art at VCA, his practice utilizes computational processes driven by journalistic research. His first encounter with 3D printing and modelling represented a significant breakthrough in his art practice and came from trainings at research platform services, where he is now paying that forward as a teacher.

Drop-in Sessions

Eric will be hosting a series of face-to-face drop-in sessions (2hr), open to ALL. Come along to as many of the drop-in sessions as you like.  Meet up with other researchers and students using 3D printing, skill share and get advice on how to create or improve your 3D models for printing. Newcomers and experts all welcomed! Bring along your models and work on it in a collaborative environment.
