This session will give an introduction to using Microsoft Excel and Tableau for data-related work. Both software tools allow you to edit, modify and explore your research data without needing any advanced programming skills. Excel has become the ubiquitous desktop tool for working with tabular data. Tableau is a widely used business analytics tool that makes it easy to combine multiple views of their data into one analytics tool. Please come to this session to see some simple yet powerful tricks for working with data.

Greg D'Arcy has over 15 years’ experience working with research data management, digital repositories, and publishing open resources and datasets. He has managed programs and projects with government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, the cultural sector (Art Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums), charities and digital producers.

Geordie Zhang has a background in information technologies for digital humanities and social sciences (Digital HASS), research data management, eResearch, research information systems and information architecture. He is also currently completing his Ph.D. on the information theory of large-scale telecommunication networks.
