ERC FAQs

ERC FAQs

  • How do I enter the ERC?

Entry to the ERC Library is currently via the southern or Grattan Street entrance from the Ground floor. As buildings, retail and cafes open across the New Student Precinct in 2023, further entry points will be available on the north side of the building.

  • How has the ERC been redeveloped?

All levels of the Eastern Resource Centre (ERC) Library have been extensively refurbished as part of the New Student Precinct works, delivering a library, informal study spaces, bookable and collaborative spaces, assistive technology rooms, Chill Out pods and a Graduate Student lounge.

  • What facilities are available in the ERC?
    • Informal study spaces: Students who like or need to work in groups, or study alone, or lounge while catching up on semester reading are all catered for.
    • Quiet study spaces: Level 2 of the ERC is a designated Quiet Study Area, for students who prefer a quiet environment to study or concentrate. Those wanting to talk or participate in group discussions while studying can book a project room or choose other levels of the library to study.
    • Student bookable project rooms and computers: Project rooms suitable for small group work and library PCs can be booked by students using BookIT. Project rooms 123 and 124 have zoom capabilities. For more info on PCs and project rooms, see BookIT
    • After Hours Study Zone: ERC Basement, Ground and Level 1 spaces are accessible to all UoM (University of Melbourne) students when the library is closed. The Graduate Study space on Level 3 is available to graduate students only via swipe access during After Hours Zone hours.
    • Chill Out Pods (Level 2 and 3): Two Chill out pods will be available to provide students, including neuro-diverse students, with spaces to take a break from the stress of student life. Each pod will have comfortable seating, and the ability to control and block out light. The Chill Out Pod is located on Level 3 in the Graduate Study and Lounge area and so will be accessible to graduate students only. These rooms will be available for walk-up bookings and are able to be booked ahead of time.
    • Access Technology Rooms (Level 1, Rooms 111 and 112): there are 2 bookable rooms; one project room and one that has computers with assistive technology. These rooms are bookable via our BookIT booking system. SEDS has advised that these rooms should be open to all students, not just those registered with SEDS.
    • Student printing, photocopying and scanning facilities: Multifunctional Devices (MFDs) are available on Level 3 and Basement Level. A top-up kiosk is available on the Basement Level. Please note, graduate researchers have access to staff MFDs and will not be able to print for free to the student MFDs available in the library.
    • Student Lockers: swipe-accessible lockers are available on the Basement Level, Lower Ground Floor and Level 3 in the Graduate Study and Lounge Area. The Level 3 lockers will be available to graduate students only. More details to come on when they will be available for use and how they will work.
