This extensive collection of books, serials, pamphlets and newspapers was acquired by the University from the Victorian branch of the Communist Party of Australia in 1990, upon the disbanding of the Party. The CPA's archival records are held by the University of Melbourne Archives while the published material came to the library. The collection also incorporates the contents of the CPA's former Marx School library.
Notable amongst the material in the library are bound sets of:
- The Guardian (the Victorian CP newspaper) for 1947-66
- The Workers' Voice (1934-6)
- Progress (1943-4)
Please note: These items are offsite and need to be ordered ahead.
There are also pamphlets in the McLaren and AX collections that are available for the usual retrieval times. List of pamphlets in McLaren and AX Collections
