The Peace Council Collection came from the late Dr Stephen Murray-Smith and comprises books, pamphlets, periodicals, correspondence and press cuttings relating to Australian left-wing politics - and the peace movement in particular - during the late 1940s and the 1950s. During this period Dr Murray-Smith was National Organising Secretary for the Australian Peace Council. This collection provides valuable documentation of the organisation for that period.
Dr Murray-Smith was the founder of the of the literary magazine Overland which he edited until his death; however, it should be noted that this collection does not contain any material relating to Overland.
