Whether you're conducting PhD research or exploring local history, we are here to help you get a closer look at the answers.

The University of Melbourne has a number of rare and valuable collections that are used for research, teaching and learning. As the collections require a specialist environment to preserve them for future generations, they are stored in secure areas.

This is where the Reading Room comes in: our staff retrieve collection items for you to view in a purpose-built supervised space.

We're here to help you access the following collections:

Standard Hours

The Reading Room is open by appointment Monday to Friday. The Reading Room is closed on University holidays.
