"Meet the Poets"

Meanjin started with poetry in 1940 and has always been an important part of the magazine’s offering. Clem Chritesen, editor for 34 years, was a meticulous record keeper and the archive attests to this. Apart from files on all the individual contributors, he also kept cuttings and lists of the literary scene. We can see a list of Meanjin poets, but also a list of living Australian poets, which would have important to keep abreast of possible contributors, particularly before the days of the internet. We are lucky to have such a well organised and comprehensive record of this important vehicle of literature and thought in Australia.
