Login FAQs

 Will multiple sign-ons be eliminated?

Yes. The new University single signon product is being integrated with Discovery and other University applications to reduce the number of times you need to log in using your University of Melbourne username and password.

Login to your Discovery folder

When you are using Discovery you can also choose an option in the top right navigation bar to "sign in to my stuff". This means you sign into a Discovery function that allows you to store your records, save searches and set up alerts. For the present these are separate signons, however we are working on ways to make this more seamless.

The Discovery service offers the ability to set up an individual account so that you can save citations, searches, alerts and a number of other personalised services.

In order to take advantage of these features, you will need to set up your own Discovery account.

1.          Log in to Discovery.

2.          From any Discovery screen, click on Sign in for My Stuff in the header.

3.          On the Discovery Sign In screen, click on Create a new Account.

4.          Fill in ALL the fields on the New Account screen.

Because you are creating a new, personal account on the EBSCO server, your User Name MUST be unique.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE YOUR FULL UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE E-MAIL ADDRESS AS YOUR USER NAME.  e.g. yourname@unimelb.edu.au

This will ensure that there is no possible conflict with other (global) usernames.

5.          When you have completed all the fields and checked them for accuracy, click on Submit.

Your Discovery account will be created, and you can now use this account to save citations and searches, create alerts and other personalised functions.

Remember the Secret question and Secret answer you provided in creating your Discovery account.  These will be required if you forget your Discovery password and need to reset the account.

Once you have created a personal account in Discovery, you can use it in any Discovery session.  Records, searches and alerts saved in any previous session will be available to you from wherever you are using Discovery.

To log in to your Discovery account, follow these steps:

1.          Log in to Discovery.

2.          From any Discovery screen, click on Sign in for My Stuff in the header.

3.          On the Discovery Sign In screen, enter your User Name and Password.

At present there is no linkage between the University of Melbourne Single Sign On (SSO) system and your Discovery account.  It is therefore necessary to sign in separately to your Discovery account each time you use it.

4.          Click on Login.

You are now connected to your Discovery account to use all the enhanced functionality available there.

Log out of Discovery account

When you have finished using your Discovery account, you can simply close your Discovery session – close the browser/tab – or sign out of your Discovery account and continue the session.

To sign out of your Discovery account, click on Sign Out in the header from any Discovery screen.  You will be returned to a normal Discovery search session.

Forgot your Discovery account password?

If you have forgotten your Discovery Password, you can go to the Sign In screen and reset your password.

To reset your Discovery account password follow these steps:

1.          From any Discovery screen, click on Sign in for My Stuff in the header.

2.          On the Discovery Sign In screen, click on I forgot my password.

3.          At the prompt, enter your Discovery User Name (which should be your University of Melbourne email address) and click on Continue

4.          You will be prompted with the Secret question you defined in setting up your Discovery account.  Enter the answer to your Secret question and choose a new password.  Retype your password in the field provided.

5.          Click on Continue and your password will be reset and you will be logged in to your Discovery account.

Forgot your Discovery username and password?

If you failed to set your Discovery User Name to your University of Melbourne email address, and you can’t remember the User Name you selected, you can request a reminder of your Discovery User Name and Password.

1.          From any Discovery screen, click on Sign in for My Stuff in the header.

2.          On the Discovery Sign In screen, click on I forgot my user name and password.

3.          At the prompt, enter your First Name and last Name and your email address and click on Continue.

4.          If the name and email address match an existing Discovery account, you will be taken to the Reset password screen.

5.          You will be prompted with the Secret question you defined in setting up your Discovery account.  Enter the answer to your Secret question and choose a new password.  Retype your password in the field provided.

6.          Click on Continue and your password will be reset and you will be logged in to your Discovery account.

7.          If your name and email address do not match an existing Discovery account, you will be prompted to try again.

If the error was other than a typing mistake then contact Library staff to attempt recovery of your account details.  This will be extremely difficult if your User Name is not your University of Melbourne email address or you have mistyped your name or email address in the initial account setup procedure.
